I have been with the Rasmussen / Collegis Education since 2008 starting as Rasmussen College’s Surgical Technology Clinical Coordinator.  I moved into the Health Sciences Clinical Coordinator role in 2010, then over to Collegis in 2014 as a Healthcare Education Manager.  Prior to Education, I was a Certified Surgical Technologist and worked within an orthopedic team as a Surgical Assistant. With a passion for healthcare, one of my greatest accomplishments has been helping students find their place within the healthcare team.
What I love most about the HOSA Board is helping students explore multiple healthcare careers.

Brady Malecha – Board Chair

Brady Malecha is the K16 Program Coordinator with HealthForce Minnesota, charged with implementing new and existing strategies to teach healthcare careers to a broad audience across the State of Minnesota, including Scrubs Camp.  Brady received his Bachelor of Science Degree from Winona State University in Public Health and will receive his Master of Science Degree from Winona State University in May of 2021.  When Brady isn’t busy planning Scrubs Camps, you can find him outside biking, hiking, kayaking, catching up with friends, or vacationing in Cape Cod after the conclusion of camp season. 
Brady’s favorite thing about being on the HOSA Board is “I love the creative and innovative mindset of the MN HOSA Board.  The board is fully supportive of new and fresh ideas, while fostering an environment of inclusion and diversity from multiple angles.”

Bryanna Renner - Vice-Chair

Bryana started with MN HOSA as a freshman when she started a new school. It gave her a way to meet new friends and explore her passion for healthcare. While in HOSA she built a network of peers and advisors, competed at state and international conferences, and received titles in Creative Problem Solving for three consecutive years. She also participated in chapter and state leadership. After graduation, Bryana came back to MN HOSA as an alumnus to help with conferences and events throughout the year until becoming a board member. Bryana has been with MN HOSA since 2009.

Anthony Schaffhauser - Treasurer, Executive Committee

Mr. Schaffhauser is the Director of Healthcare Workforce Development for HealthForce Minnesota, fostering collaboration and innovation to develop Minnesota’s current and future healthcare workforce.  His experience includes over ten years in higher education, including Dean of Student Access, Executive Director of Continuing Education and Customized Training, and faculty.  He was also a regional labor market analyst for the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.  He received his Master of Science in Public Policy Analysis from University of Rochester and his Bachelors from Tulane University.
Anthony’s favorite part about being on the HOSA Board is seeing how HOSA students develop such outstanding professionalism and knowing that I help MN HOSA provide that.”
 
Dan Olson - MFSO Representative, Executive Committee

Daniel D. Olson, MBA, MAM, MLS(ASCP)CM graduated summa cum laude with a BA in natural science from Concordia University, St. Paul, earned a BS in medical technology from Minnesota State University – Mankato, completed a one-year clinical internship at Regions hospital and is a board certified medical laboratory scientist. Dan has a Master of Arts in management and a master of business administration (MBA) from the College of Saint Scholastica- St. Paul. Dan is a doctoral student in leadership in healthcare administration at Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.
Dan currently serves as Project Manager at North Memorial Health System. He continues to provide healthcare consulting services and is Adjunct Faculty at the College of Saint Scholastica MBA program as the course designer and teacher for MGT-6307 Rural Healthcare Economics.
Dan has worked in leadership roles throughout his professional life beginning with five years of restaurant management and a year of ice manufacturing management in Hawaii. He moved to Minnesota in 1984 and continues to provide leadership in healthcare workforce development and healthcare education and industry partnerships at the state and national level, and served on numerous boards.

Bill Neiss – Secretary, Executive Committee

Bill started in healthcare at the age of 19, working ambulance as an EMT for Allina while in college. He has worked ambulance in the metro and at Brainerd International Raceway, and North Memorial’s Emergency Department. He transitioned to teaching EMS at Spring Lake Park High School and has taught First Aid/CPR, Nursing Assistant, Emergency Medical Responder, EMT, and Personal Protection for Women since 1988. Bill teaches at the high school with his wife and has 3 children, two pursuing careers in healthcare. He takes student learning outside the classroom at various community events and the Dominican Republic for a medical mission trip experience like no other. When he has free time, you will find him riding his motorcycle during the warmer weather season and spending time with his family.
Bill’s favorite part about being on the HOSA Board is the “absolutely great group of people to work with. They love kids, they love the field of healthcare and are on the board to melt the two together. These are people willing to roll up their sleeves and do the work to make multiple events happen to expose students to healthcare and give them a chance to network with enthusiastic people working in healthcare”

Ellen Schneider

Human resources professional with over 25 years of experience in both for-profit and non-profit businesses with the greater part of my career working in Senior/Elder services and housing/care industry.  I am a 9-year member of Leading Age MN and am faculty for their Housing with Services Certificate Program.  In the last 10 years my HR focus has been leadership training and development.  I am currently a self-employed Independent Senior HR Consultant.
I am a graduate of St Cloud State University where I played Basketball, ran on the track team and got a degree in English, with minors in Marketing and Coaching.  I live in St Paul, am a mother of 3 children and a Grandmother (best Job ever!!).
What I love most about HOSA is the diversity of our Board and the knowledge they bring;  the passion and commitment our Board has for the students and furthering the learning of our HOSA students; seeing the students grow from their first year to their last year and also the growth of the State Officers from the beginning of the year to the end of the year…. And the events and the energy and …. All of it!!

I studied Healthcare Administration at UW-Eau Claire and have worked in healthcare Human Resources for my entire career.  I have enjoyed getting to know students and employees and assist in their career growth and development.  I am proud to currently work as a HR Business Partner at Regions Hospital, supporting our inpatient, emergency and respiratory care areas.  On a more personal note, I am married with 2 daughters – one in college and the other in high school.  
The thing I love most about the HOSA Board is getting to know the students and watching them grow and develop.
 
Christy Mader - HOSA Alumni

Christy was a HOSA student 1984-1985 which helped her to find her career.  She realized a career at the bedside was not for her, but she could put her passion for health care to work in other areas.  She began her career as a medical transcriptionist and worked her way to her current position as Human Resource Generalist.  Christy served on the HOSA Board for 25+ years and loves interacting with students.

Shelli Sowles represents the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) as a liaison to the MN HOSA board. Shelli is the Career and Technical Education (CTE) Coordinator and Health Science Specialist at MDE. She has been a part of HOSA for nearly 15 years as an advisor, judge, board member, and supporter. Shelli loves interacting with students and helping them align their skills, interests, and abilities with future careers in healthcare.
I love that healthcare industry professionals and teachers are supporting the next generation of healthcare workers. HOSA is a unique opportunity for business and education to interact, share best practices, and guide the future workforce.
